I listen. To everything. I hear what you say, even when you don’t think I’m paying attention. Mostly, as I stated last week, I am extremely proud. However, there are a few things that get a rise out of me. Mostly, it’s what I hear you sometimes saying to yourself. I believe in the power of you, and when I sense that you don’t feel the same way about yourself, it hurts me. I don’t expect you to be perfect, but I do expect you to follow your passions with blind relentless intensity. It’s easy to see what you can’t do, but it takes intention and focus to shut it out and move past it.
Here is the number one rule for us to follow during this summer session and beyond. Change the way you talk to yourself. In all things, from your fitness, nutrition, work, family and relationships. STOP TELLING YOURSELF WHAT YOU CAN’T DO. IMMEDIATELY. Through intentional practice, shift your self-talk from “I can’t do that”, or “I wish” to “I will”. Accept the fact that it won’t be easy, it might hurt, take more energy than you think you have, require great sacrifice, and that you might fail 100 times before you finally get it right. But damn, if you want it, do whatever it takes to make it happen. Period.
